Resource: World War I Veteran Interview Transcript
Write a possible transcript of an interview youhave just finished
with a solider who survived World War I. Provide insight to your readers on the
topics of nationalism, imperialism, and political thought.
Develop questions you must ask in order to gain perspective about
the roles nationalism and imperialism played in the outbreak of World War I.
Research the best possible answers that describe the mood of a World War I
soldier. Develop questions that would extract how nationalism affected
industrial and political thought during World War I.
Explain the issue of government propaganda. Consider the following
illustrations on pp. 772–773 (Ch. 26) of Civilization
in the West: “Take Up the Sword of Justice” by Sir Bernard Partridge,
England, 1915; and the World War I poster by George Kirchbach, Germany,
1914–1918. You do not need to include
all of these sources, but pick one that would be appropriate for your soldier.
Include at least one question about the effect of trench warfare on
the survivor.
You do not need to give your solider a name or an identity for
him. However, you should at least identify the soldier’s nationality because
this will shape his responses to your question.
Keep in mind that a British soldier will see events differently than a
German soldier, etc.
The
paper must be turned in as a Word document through your Assignments tab
